golden girls (and no, i'm not a fan of witherspoon)

reese witherspoon was a shoo-in to win. hollywood loves to bestow its golden girls with the penultimate prize of artistic credibility, the best actress oscar. it seems like you aren't really hollywood royalty til you've bagged the oscar.
reese is beautiful, has box office clout and a movie star husband, and now with the oscar, she apparently has acting chops. the academy loves to make screen goddesses out of movie stars and america's sweetheart is well on her way to being one. let's not forget that she's the world's highest paid actress too.
poor felicity huffman's from TV,(gasp! that's blasphemous!) she's an outsider. oscars are for movie stars not tv actresses (well except for helen hunt). you can imagine the academy going "they have their emmys to win so leave our beloved oscar alone!"


reese will go the way of julia roberts and gwyneth paltrow. hollywood golden girls who had everything but were known more for their trysts(roberts)and connections(paltrow) than their acting cred but all that was forgotten the moment they won their oscar. their careers have taken a back seat after their win and it seems logical, what's there to win after you've won the grand prize? now julia and gwyneth are known as oscar winning actresses a far cry from their tabloid hogging days. hilary swank's different. she has nothing else to show for apart from her two oscars. sharon stone almost made it with casino but hey, she was nominated for best actress for what was a supporting role. charlize theron and nicole don't count, one's south african, the other's australian and they both had to play ugly to win.

so congratulations, reese, you are now officially hollywood royalty. the southern belle who has everything really HAS everything now.

PS: i wonder if we will ever see legally blonde reese witherspoon again.

one more thing: when nicole kidman came out to give out the best supporting actor award, i knew george clooney was going win. same when queen latifah came out to present best song (eventual winners, rap group three 6 mafia). the academy loves their presenters to have some sort of connection to the winners. note: sophia loren to roberto begnini (both italians), sean connery to catherine zeta jones (co-stars in entrapment). how predictable.
